Kratom has built quite the following in North America and parts of Europe, where countless consumers seek it out as an herbal product for energy, relaxation, and other personal wellness goals. Israel, however, is a very different market.
Although the plant has attracted some attention among Israelis interested in natural wellness, there is little evidence of a mainstream kratom retail industry comparable to the one in the United States. And when you take a look into the country’s kratom laws, it’s easier to understand why that is.
In a word – no. Kratom is listed as a dangerous drug under Israel’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance (New Version), 5733–1973, which prohibits unauthorized possession, use, cultivation, importation, and commercial dealing in substances covered by the law.
The relevant entry appears in Part A of the Ordinance’s First Schedule. It names Mitragyna speciosa and includes all parts of the plant, explicitly mentioning its roots and seeds. The entry also identifies kratom by its common English name.
This is worth emphasizing because some online sources describe kratom’s status in Israel as a legal gray area, suggesting that the plant itself is not prohibited even though commercial distribution may be restricted.
One Hebrew-language article updated in June 2026 makes that claim. However, the consolidated legislation lists the plant directly and overtly, ultimately debunking the thought that kratom sits in legislative limbo in Israel.
For anyone considering bringing kratom into Israel, buying it locally, or ordering it from abroad, the prudent interpretation is that the plant is prohibited unless a specific legal authorization applies.
Israel’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance establishes different maximum penalties depending on the nature of the offense. Personal possession is treated differently from commercial trafficking, but neither is automatically lawful simply because the quantity is small.
Section 7 of the Ordinance prohibits unauthorized possession and use of dangerous drugs. For possession or use exclusively for personal consumption, the statutory maximum is:
These are maximum statutory penalties, not automatic sentences. The outcome of a particular case depends on the circumstances, the evidence, the applicable law, and the court’s decision.
The consequences can be substantially more serious when an offense involves commercial activity.
Section 13 prohibits unauthorized importation, exportation, trading, and supply of dangerous drugs. Section 19A establishes the penalties for offenses under the relevant trade and transit provisions.
The maximum penalties include:
Section 6 also prohibits unauthorized cultivation, production, preparation, and extraction of dangerous drugs, with a similar maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment or the applicable statutory fine.
These provisions mean that selling kratom online, importing a commercial shipment, or supplying the product to other people can expose someone to a different level of legal risk than simple personal possession.
Can You Bring Kratom Into Israel When Traveling? If you regularly use kratom and have an upcoming trip to Israel, do not assume that carrying a small personal supply is acceptable.
There is also a difference between purchasing a product legally in your home country and being permitted to carry it across an international border. A seller’s willingness to ship a product, or another traveler’s experience passing through an airport without inspection, does not establish that possession is lawful, or that you’ll experience the same leniency.
The Ordinance includes provisions for authorized handling and specific transit circumstances, but these should not be interpreted as a general exemption for travelers carrying kratom. Anyone who believes they have a legitimate basis for transporting a controlled substance should obtain confirmation from the appropriate Israeli authorities before traveling.
The safest practical option is to leave kratom at home rather than risk having it seized or facing a criminal investigation upon arrival.
Israel has plenty of tobacco shops, smoke shops, herbal retailers, and supplement businesses, but none of them explicitly advertise that they carry or sell kratom. That could be in part, because of the laws surrounding kratom, and also because the herbal product just isn’t that popular in Israel.
There is some evidence of interest in the kratom plant among Israeli consumers. For instance, an Israeli online discussion from 2021 asked about kratom’s legal status and whether it could be obtained locally or ordered from overseas. The discussion also included reports from users who said vendors had stopped shipping to Israel because of legal uncertainty.
The most defensible conclusion is that kratom has a limited, relatively obscure presence in publicly documented Israeli consumer discussions, rather than a well-established legal retail industry.
More importantly, even if you do manage to find a kratom vendor operating in Israel, the plant’s inclusion in the country’s list of illegal and controlled dangerous drugs should tell you that it probably isn’t a smart move to buy the stuff locally.
Overseas vendors may advertise kratom internationally, and some websites may accept orders from customers in countries where the product is prohibited.
However, Israeli law prohibits unauthorized importation of kratom because the plant is expressly listed in the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
There are several important distinctions to keep in mind:
Israel’s Ministry of Health provides an official application process for importing and exporting narcotics and controlled substances. Its procedures require the appropriate permits and licenses for substances covered by the relevant controls.
For ordinary, everyday consumers, the safest course is not to order kratom for delivery to Israel.

For travelers who normally rely on kratom, it makes sense to plan ahead rather than arrive in Israel expecting to find a local supplier.
The best substitute depends on why you use kratom in the first place. If you usually take it for energy, relaxation, or support with everyday discomfort, consider options that are appropriate for your individual circumstances, and of course, legal within the country.
Some possibilities include:
Interestingly, Israel is one of most advanced countries in terms of cannabis research and product development. If you use kratom for the relief of physical discomfort and tension, the Israeli market is teeming with over-the-counter cannabis-derived products that are developed for the same purpose.
Israel’s Dangerous Drugs Ordinance explicitly names Mitragyna speciosa and prohibits unauthorized possession, use, cultivation, importation, and trade. For travelers and residents alike, the sensible approach is to respect the existing restrictions, avoid attempting to import kratom without lawful authorization, and seek professional legal advice if a particular situation requires clarification.
For now, Israel stands firm in their decision to ban kratom. But with an open-minded community of herbal wellness enthusiasts, it’s safe to assume that things might take a turn for the kratom industry in Israel sometime in the future.
